Case Description
On June 22, 2023, a criminal case for calls to terrorism was opened in the Ivanovo region against a local 29-year-old resident, Mikhail Kupriyanov. According to the investigation, in 2023 he 'began expressing sympathies for the Armed Forces of Ukraine on social networks, posting videos about Ukrainian military and sharing messages about the RDK.' The next day, on June 23, a search was conducted at the man's home. In the same day, the Oktyabrsky District Court of Ivanovo sent Kuryanov into custody. Later, a criminal case was opened against the Ivanovo resident for preparation for state treason. According to law enforcement's version, Mikhail purchased a train ticket to St. Petersburg, posted a photo of the ticket with comments that "he had enough of everything" and "soon he will be a different person." "Thus, the investigation claims, Kupriyanov expressed a desire to fight on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. On 15 October 2024, the 2nd Western District Military Court found Mikhail Kupriyanov guilty and sentenced him to 7 years in a strict regime colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
