Case Description
Early in October 2023, three defendants in a case involving a Ukrainian Pentecostal church called "Vozrozhdenie" ("Revival"), which was recognized as an "undesirable organization," were detained in Moscow. The investigation believes that Vladimir Muntian, the founder of the "Vozrozhdenie" church, directed money collected from supporters to purchase equipment and weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The case materials state that "organizations under Muntian's control" finance the activities of the Ukrainian "Azov" regiment, and "video reports on expenditures were published on the official pages" of the religious organization. On December 3, 2024, the Simonovsky District Court of Moscow found the defendants guilty and sentenced Mikhail Kovale to 4 years in a penal colony, Ilona Nagornova to 3.5 years in a penal colony, and Nadezhda Ukhova to 3 years of imprisonment. In addition, all defendants are prohibited from engaging in religious activities for 7 years. Ilona Nagornova's sentence is deferred until autumn 2027, when her child reaches the age of 14. On August 7, 2025, the Moscow City Court upheld the verdict.
