Case Description

In early June 2022, the Leninsky District Court of Ivanovo fined activist Mikhail Gusev 45 thousand rubles in a case of an administrative offense for discrediting the Russian army. The reason for drawing up the protocol was a single picket with a sheet of paper on which it was written "*** *****. The court considered that Gusev had encrypted the slogan "No to war" in this way. Immediately after the meeting, the activist was handed a summons to the military enlistment office, and he urgently left Russia. The military commissariat of Ivanovo requested to open a case against him under Art. 328 of the Criminal Code (evasion of military service), but received a refusal from the local management of the Investigative Committee. In response to the attempt to open a criminal case against him, Gusev wrote a post: 'Apparently, the Ivanovsky military enlistment office was very offended by the fact that I left Russia because of my unwillingness to join the army of fascists and occupiers, which kills peaceful Ukrainian citizens and bombs residential buildings.' It was this post that became the reason for the criminal prosecution of the activist for repeated "discrediting of the army. On December 15, 2023, Mikhail was charged with the final version, and he was given a written undertaking not to leave the country as a preventive measure and was put on the wanted list.
