Case Description
The resident of Uryupinsk, Mikhail Filatov, sentenced to 12 years in prison for arson of a military enlistment office, has been transferred from Vladimir Central to Volgograd Detention Facility No. Attorney Eduard Yapparov reported that his client Mikhail Filatov was transferred from the Vladimir Central and is currently being held in the Volgograd SIZO-1 in a solitary cell. It is unknown for what purposes he was transferred (from Vladimir). Around four in the morning on September 26, 2022, in Uryupinsk, Volgograd region, unknown persons set fire to a military enlistment office. At that time, there were two people in the building who managed to leave the premises through an emergency exit. Fire was quickly extinguished, no one was hurt. The next day, a local resident, Mikhail Filatov, was detained on charges of arson. According to the investigation, the man found instructions online, prepared 11 homemade incendiary devices, doused the entrance to the building with gasoline, and threw bottles with flammable mixture into it one by one. In the morning, a post with a photo of a Molotov cocktail and the caption 'Everyone protests as they see fit' appeared on Filatov's VKontakte page. Filatov was charged with terrorism causing significant property damage and sent to a pre-trial detention center. On October 3, 2023, the Southern District Court found Mikhail Filatov guilty and sentenced him to 12 years in prison, the first three years of which he must serve in prison, and the remaining term in a strict regime colony. On January 9, 2024, the Appellate Military Court left the verdict unchanged.
