Case Description
On September 9, 2023, the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation launched an investigation against Mikhail Dariy from the Moscow region. According to the investigation, from May 19, 2022 to September 9, 2023, Mikhail was a member of the neo-Nazi group NS/WP and the organization 'Azov,' recognized as terrorist on the territory of the Russian Federation. According to the charges, the man disseminated information calling for terrorist activities and recruited at least 12 people to participate in the banned organization, inciting violence and harmful actions under his leadership. A criminal case was initiated against Dariy for justifying terrorism and participating in the activities of a terrorist organization. On September 10, 2023, Mikhail was detained, and later the same day, he was charged. At the request of the investigation, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow chose a measure of restraint in the form of detention. The investigation claims that the detainee received instructions via Telegram on the manufacture, storage, and use of a homemade explosive device, which was then intended to be used in a sabotage-terrorist act at the fuel complex of Sheremetyevo Airport. The man who allegedly directed the instructions was identified and detained on March 26, 2024. He turned out to be 28-year-old Ilya Kovylkov, a resident of the Samara region. A criminal case was initiated against him for preparation for a terrorist act and attempted illegal manufacture of explosive devices, committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy. On March 27, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow placed Kovylkov in custody. At the hearing on the measure of restraint, the Samara resident was brought in a depressed state and with traces of beatings on his face. On April 22, 2024, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow granted the investigation's motion to merge the cases of Dariy and Kovylkov into one proceeding. On July 26, 2024, the 2nd Western Military District Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Mikhail Dariy to 22 years of imprisonment, including 3 years in prison, 19 years in a strict regime colony, a fine of 600 thousand rubles, with restriction of freedom for 1 year after serving the sentence and a ban on administering websites for 2 years, and Ilya Kovylkov - 15 years of imprisonment, including 3 years in prison, the rest in a strict regime colony, a fine of 600 thousand rubles. On December 18, 2024, the Appellate Military Court left the verdict unchanged. In August 2025, it became known that Mikhail Dariy was transferred from the prison where he was serving his sentence to Moscow, to the Lefortovo SIZO. A criminal case was initiated against him for treason. Details of the charges are unknown.
