Case Description
On April 28, 2022, in annexed Crimea, Kremlin media spread a video of the detention of former Ukrainian marine Mikhail Chupil." "According to the FSB, homemade explosive incendiary devices with damaging elements, components for their manufacture, and extremist literature were seized from him. The man was accused of preparing an explosion and arson at one of the shopping and entertainment centers in Simferopol on the orders of nationalists from the 'Azov' regiment. When the Russian Federation entered Kherson, they raised the archive in the military enlistment office, and the FSB found it in Crimea. Among the witnesses were employees who in the evening took him for interrogation. During the search, as the prosecution claims, an explosive device was found (during the investigation, the mechanism of the explosive device was changed three times). They found camouflage, the Ukrainian flag. Law enforcement officers found a phone with an "extremist page" on VK. When Mikhail said he had a different page, they replied, 'Now this is yours too.' In addition, there was nothing in the found phone - no contacts, no other applications, no family photos. On October 11, 2023, the Southern Military District Court found Mikhail Chupil guilty and sentenced him to 11 years in a strict regime colony, with the first 3 years to be served in prison, and a fine of 50 thousand. rubles. On April 8, 2024, the Appellate Military Court upheld the verdict.
