Case Description
In September 2022, Mikhail Baranov, director of quality at the Lukhovitsky Aviation Plant (which produces MiG aircraft) in the city of Lukhovitsy, Moscow region, was detained. He was accused of treason, participation in an organized criminal community, large-scale theft, and attempted arms smuggling. According to the security forces' version, Baranov was engaged in stealing parts for their further transfer abroad, presumably to Ukraine." Baranov allegedly photographed secret blueprints of parts of military aviation equipment, which he passed on to his longtime acquaintance in Ukraine, an employee of the "Odessa Aviation Plant." On September 9, 2022, the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow, at the request of the investigation, chose a measure of restraint for Baranova in the form of detention. On August 8, 2024, the Moscow Regional Court found Mikhail Baranov guilty and sentenced him to 9 years in a strict regime colony. The court also granted the United Aircraft Corporation's lawsuit against him for 5 million." rubles. December 12, 2024, the First Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the sentence unchanged.
