Case Description
On December 19, 2022, FSB officers detained Mikhail Balabanov in the Stavropol Territory. According to the investigation, he conspired with an unidentified employee of the intelligence service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and was preparing to set fire to a military enlistment office in Nevinnomyssk. During the search, Molotov cocktails were allegedly found in Mikhail's possession. Balabanov was charged with preparing a terrorist attack and sent to a pre-trial detention center. On May 22, 2024, the Southern Military District Court found Mikhail Balabanov guilty and sentenced him to four years and six months in prison. He will spend the first two years in prison, and the remainder of his sentence in a strict regime colony. The court changed part of the article to a lighter one, excluding the "group of persons" from the charges.
