Case Description
On October 18, 2022, Mikhail Babintsev, a resident of the village of Mukhorshibir, was detained in Ulan-Ude. According to the security forces' version, on the night of October 17, Babintsev "committed arson of the building of the military commissariat of the Mukhorshibir district of Buryatia in order to destabilize the activities of state authorities, i.e., committed a terrorist act." The case was immediately initiated under the article "terrorist act." The Sovietsky District Court of Ulan-Ude, at the request of the investigation, placed Babintsev in custody. On October 2, 2023, the 1st Eastern Military District Court, at a session held in Ulan-Ude, found Mikhail Babintsev guilty and sentenced him to 13 years of imprisonment: the first 3 years in prison, and the remaining term in a strict regime colony. On January 17, 2024, the Appellate Military Court upheld the verdict.
