Case Description
On August 19, 2021, in the Kirovsky district of Crimea, FSB officers detained Medzhit Ablamitov. He was accused of participating in an illegal armed formation.
According to the investigation, Ablamitov was a member of the Crimean Tatar volunteer formation named after Noman Celebidjikhan. The defense insisted that the man was only in the battalion for two months, that no weapons were seen on him, and that he only helped in the kitchen and dug trenches. The defendant himself acknowledged the fact of his presence in the formation but stated that he did not have criminal goals. Furthermore, during the trial, it turned out that eight prosecution witnesses did not give testimony during the preliminary investigation stage.
The Kievsky District Court of Simferopol chose pre-trial detention for the defendant.
On March 23, 2021, the Kirovsky District Court of the Republic of Crimea found Medzhit Enverovich Ablamitov guilty and sentenced him to 6 years in a strict regime correctional colony, with an additional restriction of liberty for 1 year. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
