Case Description
On June 24, 2024, in the city of Severomorsk, Murmansk Oblast, 35-year-old local resident Mark Mazur was detained. According to him, he was tricked into leaving the house under the pretext of considering an application about teeth knocked out at the police station. When the man came out, the SOBR fighters attacked him, twisted him, put him in a car and took him to the FSB." Mazur was accused of high treason. According to the security forces' version, the man established and maintained contact via messenger with a representative of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to whom he transmitted information related to state secrets in the field of defense. The fact of the Ukrainian special services' 'seizure' of the aforementioned information created a 'real threat to the security of Russia and its armed forces in the conditions of conducting the SVO'." The court placed Mazur in the SIZO. The man himself believes that he was detained because of correspondence with his cousin, who lives in Ukraine, on the topic of a "senseless, fratricidal, bloody war. On December 24, 2024, the Murmansk Regional Court found Mark Mazur guilty and sentenced him to 12 years in a strict regime penal colony. 18 March 2025, the Second Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the sentence unchanged.
