Case Description
In Irkutsk Oblast, a 53-year-old local resident, Maria Torbyakovskaya, was detained no later than July 2024. It is claimed that the detention took place at the airport "while attempting to flee." The Irkutsk woman was accused of state treason and calls for terrorism. According to the investigation, in January 2024, the woman posted publications justifying terrorist acts prepared and carried out by Ukrainian special services in November 2023 on the Baikal-Amur Mainline. Additionally, from December 2022 to June 2024, she made numerous transfers of funds to assist the Armed Forces of Ukraine in purchasing cartridges, shells, and other weapons and ammunition. The woman was placed in a pre-trial detention center. On July 31, 2025, the 2nd Eastern Military Court found Maria Torbyakovskaya guilty and sentenced her to 17 years of imprisonment in a general regime penal colony, 2 years of restriction of freedom, and deprivation of the right to engage in public activity on the Internet for 3 years. The court also ordered the confiscation of "the smartphone and tablet used to commit the crimes." On December 18, 2025, the Appellate Military Court changed the verdict, details unknown.
