Case Description
In Moscow on September 6, 2024, a criminal case was opened against Maria Maksakova-Igenbergs, a former opera singer and ex-deputy of the State Duma, on charges of public calls for activities aimed against state security. The reason for the criminal prosecution was her interview with a Ukrainian television channel, published in 2023, where, according to the investigation, she called for funding the Armed Forces of Ukraine and criticized the goals of the military operation. Maria Maksakova was previously a member of the State Duma from the United Russia party and a soloist at the Mariinsky Theatre. After the start of military actions, she left for Ukraine and began openly supporting the Ukrainian army. In May 2023, she was recognized as a "foreign agent. Maria Maksakova is outside of Russia. On December 10, 2024, the Presnensky District Court of Moscow placed Maksakova-Igenbergs under house arrest in absentia. On February 3, a criminal case was opened against opera singer and former State Duma deputy Maria Maksakova-Igengerbs for evading the duties of a "foreign agent" (ch. 2 years "330.1 of the Criminal Code), reports TASS citing law enforcement agencies. A source from the RIA Novosti agency noted that the singer did not label materials on her YouTube channel. Maxakov-Igenbergs was arrested in absentia in December in another criminal case - about calls to donate to the Ukrainian Armed Forces (p. Maxakova-Igenbergs is a former soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre, and from 2011 to 2016 she was a deputy of the State Duma from 'United Russia'." In May 2023, the Ministry of Justice included her in the list of "foreign agents. Artist fined 30 thousand and 40 thousand rubles in November 2023 for lack of 'foreign agent' marking (ch. 4th art. 19.34 of the Code of Administrative Offenses), and in August 2024 - for 50 thousand rubles due to the failure to submit a report as a "foreign agent" (ch. 2 years 19.34 Code of Administrative Offenses).
