Case Description
In June 2022, a criminal case was initiated in Moscow regarding "fakes" about the Russian army out of political hatred against 29-year-old Maria Kartasheva. Kartashova herself left Russia in 2021 and lives in Canada. The reason for the criminal prosecution was a post in Maria Kartasheva's Telegram channel about the killings of civilians in Bucha. On April 3, 2022, Kartasheva published photographs from Bucha, accompanying them with the text: 'These are not even all the photographs, there are worse ones.' "Please share them with your loved ones who don't believe in the truth. She concluded her post with the words 'Don't let yourself forget what is really happening in Ukraine now.'", In April 2023, it became known that Kartashov was put on the wanted list. On April 24, 2023, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow issued a decision on her in absentia arrest. On July 1, 2024, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow found Maria Kaartasheva guilty and sentenced her in absentia to 7 years of imprisonment in a general regime colony.
