Case Description
In the Tomsk Oblast, in the closed city of Seversk, in mid-March 2022, a criminal case was opened for "fakes" about the Russian army against a local resident, lawyer, and human rights activist Marina Novikova. According to the investigation, Novikova spread through the Telegram channel "Truth of the City of Seversk" unreliable information about the shelling of Ukrainian cities. March 16, a search was conducted at Novosikova's place, and then she was chosen a measure of restraint in the form of a ban on certain actions. Lawyers were prohibited from leaving Seversk and using the Internet, and were only allowed to communicate by phone with current clients. On April 29, 2023, Seversk City Court of Tomsk Oblast found Marina Novikova guilty and sentenced her to a fine of 1 million. rubles. On August 21, 2023, the Tomsk Regional Court upheld the sentence.
