Case Description
At the railway station in the area of the village of Amerevo in the Kolomna district of the Moscow region, on the night of July 20, 2024, an unknown person broke into two relay cabinets and then set them on fire. One closet burned out completely, the second did not ignite. A few hours later, law enforcement detained 24-year-old Maxim Solovkin, a resident of Kolomna, on charges of arson. A criminal case was opened against him for terrorism committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy. According to the security forces' version, Maxim decided to join the 'Legion of Freedom of Russia'. They shared a contact with him who allegedly could help him with this, and Solovkin was offered to "confirm his intention to join the legion" and set fire to a linear cabinet. FSB officers arrived at the scene and detained the man as soon as the cabinet burned out. The court sent the man to a pre-trial detention center.
