Case Description
The reason for opening a case under the article on "fakes" about the Russian army was a video that Maxim Rachkov published on his VK page. Russian military opened fire on unarmed demonstrators in Kherson on it. Investigators considered the publication of this video, as well as criticism of the Russian military and Russian President Putin, to be the dissemination of knowingly false information about the actions of the Russian army. Following additional checks in March 2023, the Investigative Committee reclassified the charges from Part 2 to Part 1 of the same article. After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Rachkov left Russia with his family. In March, at the time of the publication appearing on his VK page, he was in Turkey, but later returned to his homeland. On April 6, 2023, the Pervomaisky Court of Rostov-on-Don sentenced Rachkov to one and a half years in a penal colony-settlement.
