Case Description
2 April 2024, in Nizhny Tagil, Sverdlovsk Oblast, a criminal case was initiated against 26-year-old Ukrainian citizen Maxim Polyakov, a native of Kharkiv, who was serving a sentence in a penal colony under the article on drugs, for calls for terrorism and against state security. According to law enforcement officials, the man, having a phone in a strict regime colony, posted certain comments on the Internet. It is unknown what exactly Polyakov wrote. On 24 October 2024, the Central Military District Court found Maxim Polyakov guilty and, taking into account the previous sentence, sentenced him to 9 years of imprisonment in a strict regime colony, three of which he must serve in prison. On 10 June 2025, the Appellate Military Court upheld the verdict.
