Case Description
In October 2023, a 20-year-old local resident of Kurgan, Maxim Kharitonov, was detained in the Kurgan region. He was accused of collaborating with a Ukrainian organization banned on the territory of the Russian Federation." 3. According to the investigation, Kharitonov corresponded in March 2023 with representatives of an unnamed Ukrainian organization banned in Russia and received from them "instructions for carrying out sabotage and subversive activities." "According to law enforcement, representatives of the banned organization allegedly asked the man to distribute "pro-Ukrainian materials" and collect addresses of military units and military enlistment offices, as well as FSB, Interior Ministry, and Rosgvardia units. The man was placed in a pre-trial detention center. On November 16, 2023, the Kurgan Regional Court found Maxim Kharitonov guilty and sentenced him to 5 years in a general regime colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
