Case Description
In the Bryansk region in June 2023 (exact date unknown), employees of the Russian FSB together with police officers detained 19-year-old Magomed Magomedov, a resident of Nizhnevartovsk. According to law enforcement officials, the man was heading toward the Russian-Belarusian section of the state border in the Bryansk region in order to cross into Ukraine and join the "Russian Volunteer Corps" to participate in combat operations on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. A criminal case was opened against Magomedov for attempted treason. He was transferred to KhMAO and sent to a pre-trial detention center. On April 10, 2024, the Court of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug - Yugra found Magomed Magomedov guilty and sentenced him to 9 years of imprisonment to be served in a strict regime colony and restriction of freedom for 1 year. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
