Case Description
In the occupied Lugansk region, a criminal case on espionage was initiated against 39-year-old local resident and Ukrainian citizen Lina Smirnova no later than May 2023. According to the investigation, from December 2022 to May 2023, Smirnova voluntarily collected and transmitted through an internet messenger to Ukrainian special services information about the deployment locations of Russian military personnel on the territory of the LNR. She reported this information to her sister in personal conversations and was unaware of the further transfer of data to the Security Service of Ukraine. During the investigation, the defendant was placed in a pre-trial detention center. No later than September 5, 2025, the Supreme Court of the Lugansk People's Republic found Lina Smirnova guilty and sentenced her to 16 years of imprisonment to be served in a general regime correctional colony.
