Case Description

In June 2024, a criminal case was opened in St. Petersburg for desecration of the bodies of the deceased and their burial places against 22-year-old model and artist Anna Panteleeva, a photographer and organizer of the shoot. The reason for the criminal prosecution was a photo shoot at the Bolshoy Okhtinsky cemetery in the city. In the photographs that were circulated on the internet, Panteleeva is depicted with her breasts exposed and with 'BDSM undertones'. After the publication of Panteleeva's photos, threats of reprisals began to come from supporters of the so-called "Male State. The artist herself stated that the photo shoot did not aim to 'desecrate the deceased.' "This was a creative photoshoot, a reaction to the rape that happened to the artist in 2021. On June 18, 2024, Panteleev was detained. The next day, on June 19, the remaining participants of the photoshoot were detained - 27-year-old organizer Kristina Rozhkova and 37-year-old photographer Sergey Yevstukhin. Also in Pskov, the second participant in the photo shoot was detained - 19-year-old model Yaroslava Gumenaya. On June 19, 2024, the Krasnogvardeysky District Court of St. Petersburg sent Panteleeva into custody at the request of the investigation. On June 20, 2024, the Krasnogvardeisky District Court of St. Petersburg sent Yevstukhin and Rozhkova under arrest. On June 21, 2024, the Krasnogvardeisky District Court of St. Petersburg sent Yaroslav Gumeny under arrest. On July 17, 2024, the Krasnogvardeisky District Court of St. Petersburg mitigated Panteleeva's measure of restraint, replacing detention with house arrest. August 15, 2024, the Krasnogvardeisky District Court of St. Petersburg transferred Kristina Rozhkova and Sergey Yevstukhin from the pre-trial detention center to house arrest. When the case was transferred to court, it became known that the charges against the defendants had been toughened - all of them were additionally charged with offending the feelings of believers in places specially designated for religious rites and ceremonies.
