Case Description
In the evening of December 24, 2024, in Serpukhov, Moscow Region, unknown persons attempted to set fire to a mosque on Pushchechnaya Street. One of the arsonists was wearing a Santa Claus hat. The arson did not occur: traces of soot remained on the wall of the mosque, and several broken glass bottles and one intact one lay nearby. A criminal case was initiated for deliberate destruction of property in connection with the arson. Soon, two local residents were detained on charges of arson - 17-year-old college student Kirill Kashtanov and 19-year-old "Tasty and That's It" cook Korneliy Kurbatov. According to the investigation, the young men held far-right views and joined the NS/WP organization in November 2024. They attacked migrants and filmed it on camera, and in the evening of December 24, 2024, they attempted to set fire to the building of the local mosque using Molotov cocktails. The Serpukhov City Court placed the defendants in the case in a pre-trial detention center. March 17, 2024, the young people were charged with participation in a terrorist organization.
