Case Description
The Moscow pensioner Konstantin Seleznev was accused of spreading "fakes" about the Russian army. 3 October 2023 a search was conducted at his place, after which he was placed in a remand prison." The reason for the criminal prosecution was two publications by Seleznev on the social network VKontakte. In one of his posts, Konstantin copied his own letter to the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, in which he talks about a UN report 'on the crimes of Russian servicemen in three regions of Ukraine'. Also in the text, the man cites an investigation by The New York Times journalists about possible killings of civilians in Bucha by Russian soldiers. The second publication is titled 'A Letter to Putin as the Leader of a Terrorist State'. In May 2024, it became known that one of the two posts was excluded from the charges in the case. There remained a publication in which he copied his own letter to the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation with a retelling of the UN report "on the crimes of Russian servicemen in three regions of Ukraine" and the investigation by The New York Times into the killings of civilians in Bucha. On January 27, 2025, the Lefortovo District Court of Moscow found Konstantin Seleznev guilty and sentenced him to 8 years in a general regime colony.
