Case Description
In the Ivanovo region, a criminal case was opened against Konstantin Potapichev, a previously convicted local resident, for repeatedly publicly displaying the symbols of an extremist organization. According to the investigation, from 19 October 2023 to 19 April 2024, Potapytchev, serving his sentence in the Federal Penitentiary Institution IK-№ of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Ivanovo Region and having previously been brought to administrative responsibility, intentionally and repeatedly publicly demonstrated to other convicts tattoos on his chest in the form of eight-pointed stars. This symbolism belongs to the international public movement 'AUE', recognized as extremist and banned in Russia. February 14, 2025, the Kineshma City Court of the Ivanovo Region found Konstantin Potapytchev guilty and sentenced him to 1 year and 6 months of imprisonment. BY THE AGGREGATE OF SENTENCES, BY PARTIALLY JOINING THE UNEXPIRED PART OF THE PUNISHMENT UNDER THE PREVIOUS SENTENCE, THE FINAL PUNISHMENT WAS IMPOSED IN THE FORM OF 3 YEARS OF IMPRISONMENT IN A STRICT REGIME CORRECTIONAL COLONY. Before the verdict came into legal force, Potapych was placed under house arrest, and he was taken into custody in the courtroom. On May 23, 2025, the Ivanovo Regional Court amended the verdict: it excluded from the operative part the reference to cl. 5 years Article 70 of the RF Criminal Code when imposing punishment under the aggregate of sentences and made technical clarifications to the descriptive and reasoning part. In other respects, the court left the sentence unchanged, and the appeal complaint was not granted.
