Case Description
Employees of the FSB Directorate for the Pskov Region, together with border guards, detained 32-year-old Konstantin Karpov, a resident of the Saksky District of the Republic of Crimea, in December 2023. According to the security forces, for six months the man took photos and videos of military equipment and positions of the Russian army, transmitting this information to Ukraine. In addition, using special software, he determined the coordinates of the location of equipment and personnel. A criminal case of treason in the form of providing other assistance to a foreign state was initiated against the man and he was placed in a pre-trial detention center. Details about the identity of the defendant are not reported. On June 27, 2024, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to 12 years in prison to be served in a strict regime correctional colony. The court also imposed an additional punishment in the form of a one-year restriction of freedom. October 9, 2024, the Third Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the verdict unchanged.
