Case Description
44-year-old Kirill Zverev, a native of Leningrad Oblast, and 45-year-old Sergei Boronenkov, a resident of Kaluga Oblast, were detained in Petrozavodsk, Republic of Karelia, in April 2024. They were accused of treason and committing sabotage, by a group of persons by prior conspiracy. Boronenkova was also accused of publicly justifying terrorism. According to the investigation, from February to June 2023, Sergey Boronenkov posted a message on social media about raising money to purchase a laser sight for the Ukrainian paramilitary organization "Azov. In addition, in March 2024, Boronenkov and Zverev for a reward of 100 thousand" rubles were doused with gasoline and set fire to relay cabinets at the Padozero railway station in the Pryazhinsky District of Karelia. The investigation also believed that they were ready to commit other crimes against state security. The court placed the men in custody. November 13, 2025, the 1st Western Military District Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Sergey Boronenkov to 16 years in prison and Kirill Zverev to 15 years in prison, with the first 3 years to be served in prison, and the rest in a strict regime correctional colony.
