Case Description
In Yaroslavl in September 2023, 18-year-old local residents Daniel Laslo and Kirill Shabalin were detained. According to the investigation, the young people came to the Altai telecommunications tower on Blucher Street in the Dzerzhinsky district of the city to set it on fire, but they were detained. During the search, the young men allegedly confiscated a lighter and four liters of gasoline. Both young men were accused of preparing for a terrorist attack by a group of persons by prior conspiracy. Daniel Laslo was also charged with aiding terrorist activity. On September 7, 2023, the court sent both to SIZO. 7 May 2024, the 2nd Western Military District Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Daniel Laszlo to 10.5 years and Kirill Shabalin to 6 years and 7 months in prison, with the first 3 years to be served in prison and the remainder in a strict regime penal colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force. In July 2025, it became known that Daniel Laszlo was stripped of his acquired Russian citizenship at the initiative of the FSB.
