Case Description
In August 2024, a search was conducted at the home of 22-year-old Kirill Bessonov, a resident of the city of Maloyaroslavets in the Kaluga region. Federal Security Service officers took all his equipment, took him to the forest, and beat him, after which they released him. Six months later, in January 2025, Bessonova was detained. He was accused of calling for terrorist activities. According to the investigation, in 2023 Bessonov joined a pro-Ukrainian Telegram chat and posted comments there about Ukrainian drone attacks and missile strikes on Russia, which the investigation interpreted as justification of terrorism. The defendant in the case was sent to a pre-trial detention center. On September 1, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Kirill Bessonov guilty and sentenced him to 3 years of imprisonment. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
