Case Description
In Donetsk, no later than June 6, 2018, the special services of the self-proclaimed DNR detained 32-year-old medical student, Jordanian citizen Khaldun Nayef Sail Kharakhshah. A criminal case was opened against him for espionage. According to law enforcement's version, in August 2016, Kharakhsheh was recruited by SBU officers, blackmailing him with deportation. During 2 years he allegedly collected and passed on to Ukrainian special services information about the location of military personnel and equipment of the self-proclaimed republic, conducted video filming of strategic objects, and also laid weapons. In the winter of 2018, he was assigned to conduct surveillance on the residence of Eduard Basurin, the deputy commander of the operational command of the DNR, in preparation for an assassination attempt on him. Presumably, on April 16, 2020, Khaldun Naief Sail Kharakhsha was released as part of a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine.
