Case Description
In the Republic of Adygea in February 2023, 18-year-old Kevin Lik was detained on charges of treason. According to the FSB's version, from December 23, 2021, to February 8, 2023, being dissatisfied with the political course of the Russian Federation and the special military operation conducted by the Armed Forces of Russia on the territory of Ukraine, Kevin conducted visual surveillance and photographed the location of a military unit of the Ministry of Defense of Russia on the territory of Maykop, after which he sent photo files to the email address of a representative of a foreign state. It is not specified with whom exactly the teenager was corresponding, addresses and photographs of military units in Maykop are available in the public domain on the internet. At the time of his arrest, Kevin was a minor and had not even finished the 10th grade of school. A criminal case of treason was opened against the teenager and he was sent to a pre-trial detention center. On December 28, 2023, Alexei Nikandrov, a judge of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Adygea, found Kevin Lik guilty and sentenced him to 4 years in prison with serving the sentence in a general regime correctional colony and a restriction of freedom for 1 year. 3 April 2024, the Third Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the sentence unchanged. 1 August 2024, Kevin Lick was released as part of a prisoner exchange between the USA and Russia.
