Case Description
In Naberezhnye Chelny, Republic of Tatarstan, in January 2020, 38-year-old local activist Karim Yamadaev was detained. He was accused of public calls for terrorism, its justification and propaganda on the Internet, as well as insulting representatives of the authorities on the grounds of political hatred. According to the investigation, Yamadaev filmed and posted a video on YouTube for his series "Judge Gramm. In the video, he, dressed as a judge, staged a trial against characters portraying V. Putin, D. Peskova and I. Sechina, accusing them of crimes that led to deaths. In the plot, Peskov and Sechin's characters were sentenced to death, after which their execution was simulated. The investigation qualified these actions as calls for terrorism and insults to representatives of the authorities. Yamadaev himself did not plead guilty, claiming that the series is a work of fiction and a business project. On January 11, 2020, the case defendant was placed in custody. On March 4, 2021, the Central Military District Court found Karim Yamadaev guilty and sentenced him to a fine of 300 thousand. rubles with deprivation of the right to administer internet sites for 2.5 years. On May 12, 2021, the Appellate Military Court left the verdict unchanged.
