Case Description
On October 16, 2019, Ivan Yatskin was detained in the Simferopol district of Crimea. He was accused of treason. According to the investigation, in the spring of 2016, Yatskin, while in Simferopol, was collecting personal data of Ministry of Internal Affairs employees in the Republic of Crimea on behalf of the SBU. It is claimed that in the summer of the same year, on Ukrainian territory, he passed this information, constituting a state secret, to representatives of the Ukrainian special services. It is also known that Ivan Yatskin held pro-Ukrainian views and participated in the blockade of Crimea. The SBU officially stated that he did not cooperate with the department. After the detention, the Kievsky District Court of Simferopol sent the defendant in the case under arrest. Later, the man was transferred to Moscow, where the Lefortovo District Court repeatedly extended his measure of restraint in the form of detention. On May 21, 2021, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea found Ivan Yatskin guilty and sentenced him to 11 years in a strict regime colony with a 1-year restriction of freedom. On September 16, 2021, the Third Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the verdict unchanged.
