Case Description
On September 16, 2023, in Makhachkala, a search was conducted at the home of 30-year-old local resident Islam Musagadzhiev." "It is claimed that during a search of his house, 11 Molotov cocktails, camouflage clothing, and leaflets calling for the separation of the Caucasus from Russia were found." He was accused of public calls for activities aimed against the security of the Russian Federation. According to the security forces' version, Musagadzhiev administered the Telegram channel 'Utro Dagestana' (Dagestan Morning), which, according to 'operational data,' is overseen by Ukrainian special services. In May 2023, a man posted comments that, according to an expert's conclusion, contained statements "allowing interpretation as incitement to engage in activities directed against state security." The administrators of the Telegram channel 'Morning Dagestan' denied Musagadzhiev's involvement in the channel. We have never had such an admin, they wrote in one of the posts. On September 17, 2023, the Sovetsky District Court of Makhachkala chose a measure of restraint for Musagadzhieva in the form of detention. On July 18, 2024, the Akushinsky District Court of Dagestan found Islam Musagadzhiev guilty and sentenced him to 2.5 years of imprisonment conditionally with a probationary period of 1.5 years. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
