Case Description
In late September 2022, in the occupied Mariupol, 24-year-old local resident Irina Navalnaya was detained. She was accused of attempting to 'blow up the building of the Mariupol District Administration during the referendum in the DNR' on 27 September 2022. During a search of her apartment, a certificate belonging to her stepfather, who served in the Ukrainian "Azov" regiment, was found. On September 28, the girl was taken from Mariupol to Donetsk, to the Organized Crime Control Department (UBOP)." 1. There Irina signed a confession. The girl reported the use of torture against her with the aim of forcing her to give incriminating testimony. They sat me on a chair and started hitting me on the head, on the legs, they beat me in the thigh with a stun gun. They promised that they would not just let me go, but if I confessed to everything, I would get to the exchange with Ukraine faster and go to my mother. They told me that they knew where my mother lived, where my grandmother lived. As a result, I agreed to falsely incriminate myself in order to save my life and the lives of my loved ones. On October 7, 2024, the Southern Military District Court found Irina initially guilty and sentenced her to 8 years in a general regime colony. On June 23, 2025, the Appellate Military Court left the verdict unchanged.
