Case Description
In Samara, at 7 am on August 31, 2023, security forces detained local resident Irina Izmailova. The next evening, a search was conducted in her apartment. The lawyer who arrived was not allowed to be present during the search. Around nine in the evening, Irina was taken away in an unknown direction, and the FSB car blocked the road to the lawyer so that he could not follow where Izmailova was taken. On September 2, FSB investigator called lawyer Evgenia Ryzhkova and invited her to participate in Izmailova's interrogation. Irina was brought out to Ryzhkova, but the latter refused to talk alone with the defender and said that everything was fine with her. Irina wrote a refusal to work with a lawyer at the dictation of the investigator. On the same day, Izmailova was sent to a pre-trial detention center on charges of illegal manufacture of explosives - she was accused of manufacturing acetone peroxide according to the instructions of a "curator from the SBU. Relatives suggest that Izmailova's arrest is actually related to her partner Alexander Kudashev. The former eco-activist and head of the "Secondary Raw Materials for Charity" project went to Ukraine to serve in the Russian Volunteer Corps. At the end of June 2024, it became known that Irina's charges had been toughened - in addition to the charge of illegal manufacture of explosives, she was also charged with treason. According to the security forces, the girl allegedly collaborated with the Ukrainian special services. According to the investigation, in September 2022, while on the territory of Moldova, Izmailova made contact with an unidentified representative of Ukrainian special services named Vitaly. He allegedly instructed her on "conspiratorial methods of establishing contact" and also gave her money for tickets back to Russia. After a trip to Turkey in March 2023, where she allegedly met with Vitaly again, Izmailova began carrying out assignments for Ukrainian special services. It is alleged that from March to May 2023, Irina manufactured at least 0.25 grams of the simplest homemade explosive - acetone peroxide." "The FSB describes the goal as "to transfer through a cache to an unidentified person at the direction of an unidentified representative of the special services of Ukraine <...> that is, for its further use by the special services of Ukraine against the security of the Russian Federation. Furthermore, it is claimed that on the orders of another "curator" - Alexander - Irina again traveled to Turkey in July 2023 to deliver "Gembird" headphones to Russia. Allegedly, printed circuit boards with radio components and elements that were two electrical detonators with programmable position sensors with magnetometer function were hidden in them. Naturally, the headphones were also intended for transmission to an "unidentified person. On June 11, 2025, the Samara Regional Court found Irina Izmailova guilty and sentenced her to 20 years in a general regime penal colony.
