On May 13, 2022, in the occupied Kherson, Russian security forces kidnapped human rights activist and public activist Irina Gorobtsova. In the morning, two cars with the letter Z drove up to the house where she lived with her parents. Several people in Russian military uniforms broke into the apartment and forcibly put Gorobtsova in a car. The men told Irina's parents that she would return "by evening. Since then, no official information about Irina's whereabouts has been received. Later it turned out that Gorobtsov was taken to Crimea and placed in pre-trial detention center No. 1 in Simferopol. She was not allowed to see a lawyer, and her relatives were told that she was not in the detention center." 2. In April 2024, two years after the abduction, it became known that a criminal case was opened against Horobtskova on charges of espionage. According to the Russian investigation, from February 2022 to March 2023, the woman collected and transmitted information about the locations, times, routes, and movements of units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the National Guard of Russia in the Kherson region, types of military equipment and weapons, with reference to maps and geographic coordinates, to an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine." The transmitted data could have been used to inflict fire damage on the locations of the RF Armed Forces. On August 15, 2024, the Kherson Regional Court found Irina Gorobtsova guilty and sentenced her to 10 years and 6 months in prison to be served in a general regime correctional colony. On April 1, 2025, the First Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the verdict unchanged.
