Case Description
In Obninsk, Kaluga region, on February 20, 2024, a criminal case was opened for repeated "discrediting of the army" against a 36-year-old local resident Irina Chernikova. The reason for the criminal prosecution was anti-war publications on VKontakte. Chernikova herself is not in Russia. In June 2023, searches were conducted at her husband's relatives' homes in connection with her case. Earlier, in November 2022, Chernikova was fined in a case of an administrative offense under the article on 'discrediting' the Russian army. The reason was the publication of a video address to Russian soldiers. In February 2024, it became known that another criminal case was opened against Chernikova - for participating in the activities of an extremist organization. According to law enforcement officials, the woman posted links to the website 'Russia without Putin,' created by FBK, the Telegram channel 'Navalny's Team,' and the YouTube channel 'Navalny Live' on her social media pages. She also shared a link to download "Vesna" leaflets and a post from the Telegram channel of the "Vesna" movement with an appeal from mobilized soldiers' wives asking to bring the soldiers home.
