Case Description
In the Republic of Ingushetia, no later than June 2022, a criminal case was opened for "fakes" about the Russian army on the grounds of political hatred against Ilyas Belkharoev. According to the investigation, Belkharoev, being on the territory of Ukraine, having joined the ranks of Ukrainian nationalists, under the guise of reliable messages, publicly disseminated on the Internet publications available for general viewing that formed a knowingly false impression among readers of the allegedly illegal activities of the RF Armed Forces and state bodies of the Russian Federation in conducting a special military operation on the territory of Ukraine, discrediting its true goals." In June 2024, it became known that another criminal case was opened against Belkharev - on participation in a terrorist community and membership in an illegal armed formation that opposes the Russian army. According to the investigation, in 2015, Belkharoev moved to Ukraine, where in 2021 he joined the Dzhokhar Dudayev volunteer battalion and partially financed its activities. According to law enforcement, Belkharoev also participated in the activities of the militant wing of the Virga Batal-haji. Belkharoev himself claimed in July 2022 that he had joined the territorial defense of Ukraine. In August 2024, security forces repeatedly came to the home of Belkharoev's relatives in Ingushetia for searches, as a result of which his nephew Ilyas was detained on charges of illegal possession of a grenade launcher. According to the official version, Ilies himself sent the grenade launcher to his relatives. In 2020, Belkhareva was placed on international wanted list and arrested in absentia on charges of organizing the murder of the head of the Center for Countering Extremism in Ingushetia Ibragim Eldzharkiev and his brother Abdulakhmed in Moscow. Belkharoev was detained in Ukraine at Russia's request, but was later released by the court.
