Case Description
In March 2024, a 17-year-old Ukrainian citizen with forced Russian citizenship, Ilya Timoshin, a resident of Moscow, was detained in the Rostov region. It is alleged that at the time of his detention, the teenager was heading to Makeyevka in the occupied Donetsk Oblast, where he is originally from. He was accused of treason. According to the version of Russian law enforcement, no later than January 2024, Timoshin made contact with structures associated with Ukrainian special services. In January-February 2024, he collected information about the locations of Russian Armed Forces military units and, through a messenger, transmitted the coordinates of a 'critically important military infrastructure object' in the Moscow region to the Ukrainian side for a drone strike on it. The young man was placed in custody during the investigation. In September 2024, Timoshina was stripped of Russian citizenship at the initiative of the FSB of Russia. On February 27, 2025, the Moscow City Court found Ilya Timoshin guilty and sentenced him to 6.5 years in prison. 4 June 2025, the First Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction upheld the sentence.
