Case Description
In Tomsk in June 2024, a criminal case was initiated for "fakes" about the Russian army against a local 35-year-old resident, Ilya Sakharnykh. A search was conducted at his place of residence and at his workplace, and the suspect himself was detained right at his workplace in the cleaning room - his hands were twisted behind his back and handcuffs were put on him. Sakharnykh worked as a leading expert-specialist in personnel work at the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Tomsk Region. According to the investigation, the man "posted a comment in one of the social networks under the guise of reliable information, containing knowingly false information about the participation of Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine during the period of the special military operation." The reason for the criminal prosecution was comments under a post in the "I'm from Tomsk" group, which concerned events in Bucha and Kremenchug. At first, the man was under a ban on certain actions, and then the measure of restraint was mitigated to a written undertaking not to leave. On September 6, 2024, the Lenin District Court of Tomsk found Ilya Sakharnykh guilty and sentenced him to a fine of 800 thousand rubles. The verdict was not appealed and entered into force.
