Case Description
On July 30, 2024, a local resident, Ukrainian citizen Ilya Bondarchuk, was detained in St. Petersburg. He was accused of espionage. According to the investigation, in 2023, the man voluntarily agreed to cooperate with an SBU officer to collect and transmit information about the units of state institutions and authorities in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, which could be used against the security of the Russian Federation. On July 31, 2024, the Krasnoselsky District Court of St. Petersburg issued a ruling to choose a measure of restraint for the defendant in the form of detention. June 30, 2025, the Leningrad Regional Court found Ilya Bondarchuk guilty and sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment in a strict regime colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
