Case Description

On 6 March 2022, two young men in Saint Petersburg performed a performance: they burned a scarecrow in military uniform with a bag on its head and the inscription "TAKE IT" on the ice of the Malaya Neva." "Video of the action was published in the Telegram channel 'Petersburg Spring' with the comment: 'We received footage of the Maslenitsa action that took place today in St. Petersburg.'", Anonymous activists demand: "Take the soldiers and bodies back to Russia!", On the same day, the investigation department (OD) of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Vasileostrovsky district of St. Petersburg initiated a criminal case for hooliganism on the grounds of political hatred. According to the accusation, the activists 'grossly violated public order and showed clear disrespect to society.'", At the same time, a local resident Igor Maltsev was detained on charges of arson. The next day, on March 7, Sofya Semyonova was detained." Searches were conducted in their apartments. On March 9, the judge of the Vasileostrovsky District Court of St. Petersburg chose a measure of restraint for Sofya Semyonova in the form of a ban on certain actions: she was forbidden to communicate with witnesses in the case and use communication means. On March 11, the Vasileostrovsky District Court chose house arrest as a measure of restraint for Maltseva. On March 27, Sofya Semyonova left Russia. On September 26, 2022, the Vasileostrovsky District Court of St. Petersburg found Igor Maltsev guilty and sentenced him to three years and eight months in a general regime colony. On December 19, 2022, the St. Petersburg City Court approved the sentence. 8 November 2024, the Volzhsky City Court of the Volgograd Region granted the petition for early conditional release of Maltsev.
