Case Description
Igor Levchenko is a citizen of Russia and Ukraine from Krasnogorsk in the Moscow region, a singer and music teacher. He ran a blog on Instagram where he posted his songs. On February 24, he posted a video, and the next day — a pacifist song of his own composition. A few days later, the musician performed it at the anti-war festival of the Memorial society. On March 12, 2023, he was detained and forced to apologize on camera for the video, after which he was released. However, on March 15, he was re-arrested on charges of inciting hatred or enmity on the basis of belonging to a social group with a threat of violence." According to the investigation, he called for violence against military personnel and killing them. It is most likely about a video clip that is currently unavailable. On June 28, 2023, Igor Levchenko was sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment.
