Case Description

In August 2023, in the city of Stary Oskol, Belgorod region, unknown persons committed a series of arson attacks. Thus, on August 20, a relay cabinet was set on fire, on August 27 - a track machine, and on August 31, unknown individuals set fire to a rail lubrication cabinet in the Starooskol district of the region." 4. In early September of the same year, 20-year-old local resident Nikita Rudnev was detained on charges of arson. During the interrogation, the young man allegedly reported that he received the assignment to set fire to railway equipment from certain curators in Telegram, and he was promised 15 thousand rubles for its completion. Rudnev also told investigators about two of his 'accomplices': 20-year-olds Ilya Chenstov and Igor Kurmanaliev. Guys were accused of three episodes of sabotage, as part of a group of persons by prior agreement, resulting in significant damage. According to the investigation, the young men, on the instructions of "representatives of anti-Russian structures, for a sum of about 100 thousand. They set fire to equipment on the railway tracks with the aim of "undermining the economic security and defense capability of the Russian Federation." The court placed three defendants in SIZO. On August 30, 2024, the Belgorod Regional Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced them to 14, 16, and 17 years in a strict regime colony. On January 27, 2025, the First Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the verdict unchanged.
