Case Description
In annexed Sevastopol, no later than April 2023, employees of the FSB of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol detained a 47-year-old local resident, a former civilian employee of the Naval Forces of Ukraine, Igor Kopylov. He was accused of treason. According to the version of the Russian security forces, in July 2022, a man was recruited by an employee of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine during correspondence in an Internet messenger, he received the pseudonym "Myth. In January 2023, acting on the orders of Ukrainian special services, Kopyla received a package through a courier containing plastic explosive based on foreign-made hexogen weighing about 2 kg, a military-grade electric detonator, and an electric igniter, disguised as household electrical appliances. He was supposed to place the weapons in a cache and transmit its coordinates to a foreign intelligence service, while another agent from the GUR would retrieve and use it to carry out a terrorist attack. From January to April 2023, at the behest of a GUR employee, Kopyla filmed and allegedly transmitted to Kyiv information about the condition of the boom barriers in Sevastopol Bay, the locations of surface ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the deployment of air defense systems and other military equipment, for which he repeatedly received monetary funds." It is claimed that for cooperation, Ukrainian curators promised the Sevastopol resident treatment in Europe, but he never received the promised medical assistance. The defendants in the case were placed in custody for the duration of the investigation. Earlier, Kopylov was sentenced to six years in prison for the illegal acquisition, transportation, and storage of explosives and explosive devices. On October 4, 2024, the Sevastopol City Court found Igor Kopylov guilty and, taking into account the previously imposed punishment, sentenced him to 14 years in a strict regime colony and a fine of 400 thousand. rubles. February 3, 2025, the Third Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction changed the verdict, details are unknown.
