Case Description
On January 1, 2024, Grigory Bilenko, 55, was detained in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. He was accused of treason. According to the investigation, Bilenko, who moved to the city of Zvyagel in the Zhytomyr region after retiring in 2019, faced financial difficulties and an expired passport. His former classmate, an officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, offered to help solve these problems in exchange for providing the Security Service of Ukraine with information about the Russian army. Bilenko agreed and came to Kamchatka for this purpose. It is claimed that upon returning to Zhytomyr, Bilenko told an employee of the Ukrainian special services about his relative working in the Border Service of the FSB, as well as details of interrogations at the Russian border control. After that, he was instructed and sent to Russia for re-collection of information. During a transit transfer in Novosibirsk, Bilenko deleted correspondence with Ukrainian intelligence. Being in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Bilenko called acquaintances who had relations with the Armed Forces and asked questions about the number of ships and possible losses. For the duration of the investigation, the defendant was placed in a pre-trial detention center. On September 18, 2025, the Kamchatka Regional Court found Grigory Bilenko guilty and sentenced him to 14 years in a strict regime colony. December 13, 2024, the Fifth Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the sentence unchanged.
