Case Description
British citizen Gary Bonini was sentenced in absentia to 14 years in a strict regime penal colony for participating in combat operations on the side of Ukraine. The "Supreme Court of the DNR" found him guilty of participating as a mercenary in military actions (ch. 3rd art. Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to the investigation, in March 2022, Bonini arrived in Ukrainian territory, where he voluntarily joined the International Legion, underwent additional military training, was provided with automatic small arms and ammunition for it. After that, until August 2022, he participated in combat operations against military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation as part of the International Legion and other units of the territorial defense of Ukraine. For this, he, according to the investigation, received more than 374 thousand. rubles. Following the investigator's petition, Bonini was placed under house arrest in absentia. He has been placed on an international wanted list.
