On July 5, 2024, in Bukhara, Republic of Uzbekistan, security forces abducted 34-year-old Russian citizen Georgy Pirogov. After the war began, Pirogov left for Georgia, where he worked as an industrial climber. He was sent to Uzbekistan on a business trip. July 5 he was supposed to fly back to Georgia, in the evening he left the hotel in the city of Nukus, after which he stopped going out. Later, his car was found on the territory of the local airport. A few days later, Georgy's relatives found him in the Matrosskaya Tishina pre-trial detention center in Russia. A criminal case of treason was brought against him. It is unknown what exactly became the reason for the criminal prosecution. On July 9, 2024, the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow chose Piragova's measure of restraint in the form of detention.
