Case Description
Around 8 p.m. on April 6, 2025, in the Smolensk region at the border between Russia and the Republic of Belarus (456th km of the M-1 highway), Georgy Maroglo, a 32-year-old citizen of Moldova, was detained. According to police officers, the man refused to comply with the lawful demand to hand over documents in accordance with Part 2 of the Russian Traffic Code (clause 2.1.1 of the Traffic Code), thereby obstructing a police officer in the performance of their official duties. A protocol on an administrative offense was drawn up against Maroglo under the article on failure to comply with a lawful order of a representative of authority. The next day, on April 7, 2025, Judge Elena Pankova of the Krasninsky District Court of the Smolensk Region sentenced Maroglo to 15 days of administrative arrest." 2. Upon completion of his administrative arrest, the man was detained on criminal charges: he was accused of providing assistance to the enemy in activities knowingly directed against the security of the Russian Federation. The details of the charges are unknown. For the duration of the investigation, the defendant was placed in a pre-trial detention center. On December 25, 2025, the Smolensk Regional Court found Georgy Maroglo guilty and sentenced him to 11 years in a strict regime penal colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
